Twins in Pueblo were airlifted to Children's Hospital in Aurora this weekend to be treated for serious injuries in a case of what police are calling child abuse.

The children, who are two years old, were found at different homes on Saturday.

Investigating officers said they obtained search warrants for both homes and interviewed numerous family members.

"At the conclusion of the investigation, Jacob Rico Sandoval, 21, was arrested for two counts of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury," Pueblo police said. "Sandoval is a friend to the mother of the victims and was charged with their care when the injuries occurred."

Pueblo police did not release any other information, including the whereabouts of the child's mother.
