PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) — A man who drove his truck into a Pueblo home, hitting and killing his 6-year-old niece, has been sentenced to 28 years in prison.
The Pueblo Chieftain reports 36-year-old Danny Case was sentenced Friday for the March 2015 death of Alexis Case. He previously pleaded guilty to criminal mischief and vehicular homicide while driving under the influence.
Prosecutors say Case crashed his car into his brother's home following a heated argument. The girl was hit by the truck and pushed into the basement. Case's blood-alcohol content was 0.17 percent about an hour after the crash, more than twice the legal limit for driving.
Prosecutors say he was fueled by rage, and the crash was not an accident. Defense attorneys argued that Case would never intentionally harm the girl.
