DENVER (AP) — U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman says President Donald Trump's executive order temporarily banning refugees is an "embarrassment."
The Aurora Republican briefly spoke with a Denver Post reporter at Reagan National Airport on Monday (https://goo.gl/5Q93IB ). He says he agrees that terrorism is a real threat to national security, "but I think the policy was poorly thought-out and badly executed and I think it's just an embarrassment."
Coffman added that the order seemed to be crafted by campaign operatives rather than national security experts.
He has joined a growing list of Republican lawmakers who have criticized Trump's travel ban, which targets several predominantly Muslim countries.
Coffman represents a diverse suburban Denver district with a large population of African immigrants.
