ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — A cousin of Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch is part of a company hoping to build a new lodge at the base of Aspen Mountain.
Jeff Gorsuch is a principal in Norway Island LLC, which is proposing the 67-room Gorsuch Haus for the less developed side of the mountain. The Aspen City Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing on it Monday night.
Jeff Gorsuch's spokesman, Allyn Harvey, told The Aspen Times he's not concerned about Neil Gorsuch's nomination becoming a factor in the project in an area that overwhelmingly opposed Donald Trump.
City councilors have given the project initial approval but the planning and zoning commission opposes it.
Advocates say it would re-energize the original base of the ski resort. Opponents say it's too big for the low key area.
