Local political expert shares debate expectations

DENVER – Both Presidential candidates are entering Sunday night’s debate with plenty of baggage.

Metropolitan State University Political Science Professor Norman Provizer said Sunday’s town hall format “should” set a much different tone than the previous debate.

“Much of the interaction is going to be between the candidates and voters- just regular people,” Provizer said.

However, he admits this presidential race has been seemingly unpredictable. One constant though are the attacks from both sides.

Provizer said he’s interested in seeing how Donald Trump will carry himself in the town hall setting.

“He has a tendency of lashing out when he’s attacked, and that can go in all kinds of directions very, very quickly,” Provizer said about Trump.

Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton is heading into the debate with problems of her own. Issues she won’t be able to escape Sunday night.

“There have been WikiLeak revelations about her speeches; that’s going to come up,” according to Provizer.

Professor Provizer described Sunday’s debate as one with a dark cloud hanging above it, “Different than the clouds that hang over most debates.”
