DENVER – Six presidential candidates will campaign in Colorado in the three weeks ahead of the state’s Super Tuesday primary election, and with ballots already in voters’ hands.
Amy Klobuchar, the Democratic senator from Minnesota, is hosting an event on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 5 p.m. at the Stanley Marketplace in Aurora. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. She is also holding a fundraiser in Denver at 6:30 p.m.
She’ll be in Colorado the same day as President Donald Trump hosts a campaign rally in Colorado Springs along with Sen. Cory Gardner, R-Colo., and a day after Trump’s daughter-in-law and campaign adviser Lara Trump holds an event in Aurora.
Bernie Sanders, the senator from Vermont, drew 11,000 people to his rally at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver on Sunday.
Former Vice President Joe Biden hosted a fundraising event at former Interior Secretary and oil and gas attorney Ken Salazar’s home on Monday, though it was not open to the public.
Pete Buttigieg, the former South Bend, Indiana mayor, will host a town hall in Aurora at 7 p.m. on Saturday, and Elizabeth Warren, the Democratic senator from Massachusetts, will host a campaign event Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver.
Primary ballots arrived in the mailboxes of Colorado voters last week ahead of the March 3 primary, so some ballots have already been cast and others will be cast as the candidates who visit make their final pitches to voters here.
President Trump is expected to win Colorado’s Republican primary but there have been no recent polls of the Democratic field in Colorado. Sanders won the state’s 2016 Democratic caucus 59% to Hillary Clinton’s 40%.
According to the Associated Press, Buttigieg currently has 22 delegates and Sanders has 21 from New Hampshire and Iowa. The Democratic nominee will need 1,990 delegates to win the party’s nomination at the convention this summer.
Nevada’s Democratic caucus is set for Feb. 22, and South Carolina’s Democratic primary will be held Feb. 29 ahead of Super Tuesday – when Colorado and 13 other states, along with American Samoa and Democrats living abroad, will hold primaries or caucuses.
