Congressional candidate drives Uber and spreads his campaign message

AURORA, Colo. -- It's a car ride with conversation and at times, political commentary.

Casper Stockham is a Republican running for the U.S. House in Denver. Driving Uber is how he helps to pay his bills and spread his message. In addition to campaign placards, the backseat of his car has become the backdrop for many conversation among potential supporters.

"There's door knocking, there's the internet, there are commercials, but do you think by sharing your campaign vision in your car, you reach people in a different way?” asked Denver7’s Marc Stewart. “ Well, there's no doubt about it. When I talk to them in the car, it's a very relaxed environment," said Stockham.

Stockham said he has driven hundreds of passengers and adds only a few have asked him not to give his stump speech.

“I never press the issue with them. If they want to talk about, we talk about it. If they don't, then we don't," he said.

This isn't a novelty. If the rider agrees -- Casper will take a video of your chat and use on it his website to create a dialogue about the issues.

"They tell us never to talk about politics. You'd be surprised how many people are interested, especially with this political season this year," he said.

Stockham is facing incumbent United States Representative Diana DeGette in the First Congressional District. He said he still hopes to occasionally drive if he wins.
