DENVER – Colorado’s Republican Senate president has turned to a GoFundMe page to try and raise the $10,000 needed to commission a portrait of President Donald Trump to hang alongside the rest of the presidential portraits at the state Capitol in Denver.
Senate President Kevin Grantham, R-Canon City, launched the fundraiser Tuesday after private collections often used to commission the portraits didn’t come in as quickly as expected.
By 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, the fundraiser had brought in $7,666 of the $10,000 needed for the portrait of the 45th president, which will be painted by the same artist who painted President Barack Obama’s portrait.
The lack of a Trump portrait became more apparent when last week someone put a portrait of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the place where the Trump portrait will hang.

If the $10,000 goal is raised, Grantham says he plans to donate all of the money to Colorado Citizens for Culture, the group that facilitates the commissioning and display of the presidential portraits.
Any additional money will be donated to Rocky Mountain Honor Flight, Grantham said. People can also mail checks directly to Colorado Citizens for Culture at 2001 Lincoln Street, Suite 1611, Denver, CO 80202.
