Colorado delegation marker at Republican National Convention heading to Smithsonian

Posted

Colorado made history.

The “Colorado” sign marking the delegation’s seats on the floor of the Republican National Convention is headed to the Smithsonian museum’s collection because of the state’s walkout on the opening day.

“You are famous, infamous, as a delegation,” Colorado GOP Chairman Steve House told the delegates at a breakfast meeting Wednesday. “So, I guess, congratulations, all of you.”

Just as House prepared to leave the Quicken Loans Arena, a Smithsonian curator approached him to request the sign. He said the state’s delegation boisterous objections to the rules — which cemented Donald Trump as the party’s nominee — is one of the most memorable moments from the convention.

“We are going to do what we can to help the Smithsonian remember this convention because of the actions of the Colorado Republican delegation,” he said, suggesting the delegates may sign the inside before it goes into safe keeping.
