Colorado bills to fund roads, rural hospitals languish

DENVER (AP) — They said it wouldn't be easy.

It certainly hasn't been this week as bills to modernize Colorado's aging road network and support rural hospitals languish in the state Legislature.

Twice this week, Republican leaders who control the Senate have tried to lower expectations that lawmakers will accomplish either this session, which has just three weeks to go.

Democrats all but joined them Thursday.

At issue are disputes over raising state taxes to fund roads and exempting hospital subsidies from state tax collections.
