Romanian reporter Alexandra Albu covering US election from Denver

Posted

DENVER -- The presidential election here in the U.S. is making headlines around the world.

Journalists from dozens of countries have come to the U.S. to cover the election. Alexandra Albu, who reports for Digi 24 in Romania, is reporting on the campaigns and the election from the newsroom on Denver7.

She says there are many reasons this race is making international headlines, not the least of which is security in NATO allied countries like Romania.

“It’s very important for the whole world to see that the next president of the United States will stay on the commitments that the United States already made,” Albu told Anne Trujillo and Marshall Zelinger on this week’s Politics Unplugged.

Albu covered the U.S. elections in 2008 and 2012, but she said she never expected to see an election like this.

“This definitely has been a crazy race. I have never seen something like this,” she said. “A year ago I wouldn’t have thought we would be here.”

That’s why Albu said TVs around the world will be tuned to news channels carrying U.S. election results on Tuesday night.

“The United States are an example for all over the world, for our country for sure,” Albu said. “We are both members of NATO, so basically we are very interested in who is going to run the United States for the next four years because it directly impacts us.”
