DENVER -- Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton did little to expand their bases during their first one-on-one presidential debate.
Republican strategist Laura Carno and democratic strategist Craig Hughes talked about the candidates' performances during the first debate on this week's Politics Unplugged.
"I think if you went in as a Hillary supporter you went out as a Hillary supporter and the same for Donald Trump" said Carno.
"I think for suburban women, they saw a bully trying to dominate the stage and I thought they saw Hillary responding in a calm cool collected manor," added Hughes.
The strategists also talked about the advice they would give the candidates for their second debate on Oct. 9 which will be a town hall-style debate with half the questions coming from undecided voters.
"You have to be prepared for whatever Trump throws throughout and that's the hardest thing to prepare for -- is the unknown," said Hughes.
"I would say focus on the issues and I think central to what was missed last time was unaffiliated voters, undecided voters -- they don't believe Hillary," Carno said. "There are issues of substance and I would suggest to Donald Trump that he address those and stay out of the fray of some of the non-substantive comments."
