Three siblings were killed and another was seriously injured after a vehicle struck a horse-drawn buggy in Michigan on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
The Amish children, ages 6 to 13, were traveling home from school around 3:20 p.m. when a vehicle struck their buggy from behind in Chester Township, Michigan, Eaton County Sheriff Tom Reich said.
An elderly man who was driving the vehicle was taken to a hospital, WSYM reports.
“It is difficult to find words to describe this horrific tragedy," Reich said. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the parents who are enduring such unimaginable loss and grief, and also to their extended family and close community. Our victim advocates are assisting the family, and we will continue to provide our support and resources. We grieve with them.”
The names of the children and the driver haven't been released.
Officials are still investigating the crash.
