The Colorado State Patrol said the trooper was investigating a separate crash when his vehicle was hit.
An ambulance was called to check out the Trooper. No one else was hurt.
A photo showed that while it looks sunny in the area, the highway appeared to be icy in spots.
The highway reopened around 1:15 p.m.
WB I-70 was closed over Vail Pass earlier in the day after another crash.
