GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Transportation officials are planning to restrict traffic through Glenwood Canyon in western Colorado later this month so crews can continue rockfall work in the Hanging Lake area.
The Glenwood Springs Post Independent reports Interstate 70 through the canyon will be closed for much of the day on Aug. 10 and Aug. 11. The work was originally planned for July but was postponed because of downward wind drafts and other challenges presented by the steep slope.
Fences are being installed to try to prevent a repeat of February's rock slide, which sent boulders the size of small cars onto the road. The slide closed down the canyon for nearly a week, the longest since I-70 was built through the canyon 24 years ago.
