A man was killed while skiing with family at the Telluride Ski Resort Saturday afternoon.
George A. Nolan, 69, of Greenwood, South Carolina, was skiing with his daughter-in-law about 3 p.m. when he lost his skis and slid head-first into some trees, according to the San Miguel County Sheriff's Office said.
The woman told deputies Nolan was skiing slightly behind her but then passed her, one ski missing, sliding head-first on his side.
A Telluride Ski Patroller told deputies she was riding Lift 7 when she saw the man sliding at a high rate of speed, both skis off, down from the top of the Coonskin pitch and ultimately into multiple trees.
Telluride Ski Patrol said they performed CPR, but were not able to resuscitate the man.
Nolan is survived by his wife, two sons and a brother. He turned 69 on March 14.
Nolan's death is the second fatality at Telluride Ski Resort in 10 days. On March 9, a man from of Colorado Springs died after losing control on steep terrain and tumbling into a steep wooded area in Telluride, the Denver Post reported.
