Man killed in snowmobile crash near Aspen, officials say

PITKIN COUNTY, Colo. — A man driving a snowmobile was killed in a crash near Aspen on Saturday evening, officials said.

The crash happened about 7:20 p.m. in the Midnight Mine Road area of Pitkin County, south of Aspen, according to a news release from the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office. Rescue crews responded to a report of a crash involving serious injury about three miles up from Castle Creek Road, an area that can't be reached by car or truck in the winter.

When crews arrived, the victim had died, the news release said.

The man was traveling with another snowmobiler, who was not reportedly injured. More information about the crash wasn't available Sunday. The name of the victim has not been released.
