Loveland Ski Area: Lift 1 opens, work continues on lift 6

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. -- One lift is back open but another one remains closed at Loveland Ski Area after both had to be shut down this week due to mechanical issues. 

Lift 6 was closed last Sunday after lift maintenance found a problem at the top terminal, Loveland Ski Area officials said. Lift 1, which officials said is similar in construction, was closed Thursday and Friday because the lift maintenance team found the early stages of a similar issue.

Lift 1 was back in operation this Saturday.

Lift 6 will remain closed and will be repaired after work is finished on Lift 1, officials said.

Representatives at the ski area said the problem was discovered during daily safety checks and had to do with the lift’s bearings as chairs came into the lift station.

The resort notified the state and has ordered new parts, and representatives said the problem had “never been an issue before.”

The lifts were built in the late-‘70s and early ‘80s and were from a different manufacturer than the lift mechanisms at Ski Granby Ranch, which also had lift issues recently that left a woman dead.

Loveland is offering discounted tickets on January 19 and 20 while Lift 1 is closed. Full day adult lift tickets will be $51 (a discount of $20) and full day lift tickets for children 6-14 will be $25 (a discount of $5) during the closure.
