GRAND COUNTY, Colo. -- The ski lift at the center of a deadly accident in December has been closed for a second time and will remain closed for at least two more days.
The Quickdraw Express chairlift at Granby Ranch was initially closed for more than a week as state regulators investigated what caused the accident. On Jan. 9, the Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board released a report saying that a “rare dynamic event” occurred within the lift’s primary electrical drive and control system.
The lift was reopened.
However, the lift was closed on Wednesday, January 18 after what Granby Ranch called, "unusual/irregular conditions in the performance of the diesel prime mover system."
The Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies said the Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board reached the decision to not reopen the lift until it is "deemed safe for public operation as set forth in a Non-Disciplinary Operation Agreement."
Officials initially said the lift would be closed through Saturday, January 21 for testing. However, officials now say that testing will continue through Tuesday.
The ski area is still open and has three lifts operating.
