Colorado man dies while hiking Quandary Peak Trailhead in Summit County

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. – A Colorado man who was hiking the Quandary Peak Trailhead in Summit County died after becoming ill Tuesday morning, a spokesperson with the sheriff’s office said.

The man, who was only identified as 67-years-old, was reportedly about half-a-mile up from the Quandary Peak Trailhead when he collapsed.

Reports of the collapse came to the Summit County Rescue Group at around 8:43 a.m., the sheriff’s office said.

Paramedics from Red, White and Blue Fire Department provided advanced life support to the hiker, who was eventually wheeled out of the field on a litter.

The hiker was pronounced deceased at the trailhead.

The sheriff’s office spokesperson said the man was with a group of friends who were planning to summit Quandary Peak.

No other information regarding the man's cause and manner of death were immediately available.
