ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — A woman who tried to run over Englewood police officers in a stolen car in January 2019 was sentenced to prison on Jan. 3.

Chayley Nicole Tolin, 27, of Sheridan was sentenced to 10 years behind bars after she pleaded guilty to second-degree assault on an officer, which is a Class 4 felony. The other charges against her — which included attempted murder of a police officer, felony menacing, aggravated motor vehicle theft, vehicle eluding, reckless driving and more — were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

The charges stemmed from an incident that happened shortly before 8 a.m. on Jan. 16, 2019. Officers tried to arrest Tolin, who was driving a stolen car in the parking garage at Swedish Medical Center, after receiving a 911 call about an occupied stolen vehicle. Tolin tried to hit the officers with the car as she attempted to drive away, according to the 18th District Attorney's Office.

Two officers opened fire. Their actions were later found to be legally justified. The Arapahoe County District Attorney's Office said that the officers feared for their lives as Tolin drove toward them.

Tolin was seriously injured in the shooting, but recovered after several days in the hospital. According to the Arapahoe County District Attorney's Office, she was wounded twice in the torso.

She was sentenced on Jan. 3 to 10 years in prison.
