Woman struck by semi while walking on I-70 in Grand Junction dies

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — A woman died after she was hit by a semi on the highway in Grand Junction.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, members of the Grand Junction Police Department, Grand Junction Fire Department, Colorado State Patrol and Mesa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vehicle that had struck a person on I-70.

When first responders arrived, they found an adult female who had been hit by a semi-truck, according to Grand Junction Police Department.

Based on the preliminary investigation, authorities said they believe the woman was walking on the right shoulder of the eastbound lanes of I-70 near the 26 1/2 Road overpass when she was hit. The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with law enforcement, according to the police department.

The woman died after the crash.

This incident is still under investigation.
