FORT COLLINS, Colo. — A woman is alive but seriously injured after she was struck by a train in Fort Collins early Thursday, police said.

Around 1:30 a.m., Fort Collins police responded to a report that a person had been struck by a train near the intersection of W. Mountain Avenue and N. Mason Street.

A BNSF Railway train had been traveling northbound along the railroad tracks on N. Mason Street when a 42-year-old female was struck by the train. She was transported to Medical Center of the Rockies with serious injuries.

The Fort Collins Police Services CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team and BNSF personnel are investigating the crash.

Investigators said they do not believe speed is a factor.
