GOLDEN, Colo. — A woman faces 10 years in prison after allegedly setting fire to a family car while her husband slept inside.

Andrea Toni Moreno, 48, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after appearing in Jefferson County District Court Monday. She is accused of setting fire to a family vehicle while her husband slept inside.

The incident happened on July 20, 2017. Around 11:30 p.m. that day, the Arvada Fire Protection District was responding to an unrelated call when they saw a vehicle on fire in a driveway on the 5000 block of Swadley Street in Wheat Ridge.

When authorities near the scene, they saw a man, who had been asleep in the vehicle, standing inside the garage, according to the court.

Moreno is accused of pouring gasoline on the vehicle while the man was asleep inside, and then threw a lit match onto the gasoline, causing the front end of the vehicle to burst into flames. Her 6-year-old grandson was standing with her when she started the fire.

Earlier in the day, Moreno and her husband had been drinking and arguing, according to the court. He left the house, hoping to de-escalate the situation. When he returned later that evening, he found that his belongings had been thrown out of the house onto the lawn and he had been locked out of the house. He decided to sleep in the vehicle.

Following a trial in June, a Jefferson County jury found Moreno guilty of attempted first-degree murder, fourth-degree arson, child abuse and violation of a protection order. She was sentenced Monday.
