Mom found dead, son frostbitten after search

A woman is dead of exposure and her teenage son is being treated for frostbite after they went missing during a snowmobile trip in the Medicine Bow Mountains.

Albany County sheriff's officials found the two around 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The search began Sunday, a day after the woman, her husband and their son set out into the mountains. Sheriff's officials say the Cheyenne family spent Saturday night in a snow cave after one of their three snowmobiles broke down.

Attempts by the father to find help failed when another snowmobile got stuck in ice and the third broke down. He was found Monday after spending a second night in the mountains separated from his family.

Sheriff's officials say the 18-year-old son is being treated at a Colorado hospital.
