DENVER – A woman was killed in a pedestrian crash that happened early Wednesday near I-25 and 23rd Avenue.
Denver police say a vehicle hit the woman around 1 a.m., then drove away.
A tractor trailer with front-end damage came back to the scene hours later and was towed to determine if it was the vehicle that hit the woman, police said.
By late morning, DPD confirmed the case was not being investigated as a hit-and-run crash since the truck came back. A spokesperson for the department told Denver7 police are still investigating, but they don't believe drugs or alcohol was involved on the driver's behalf.
Roads in the area were wet at the time, and the area is poorly-lit in places. The area was closed down for investigation for several hours overnight but have since reopened.
Police have not identified the woman, but they say she is believed to be homeless.
