Woman charged in burglary that ended in officer-involved shooting; 2nd suspect in critical condition

WESTMINSTER — Police have arrested and charged a female suspect involved in a Tuesday incident that led to an officer-involved shooting with another individual.

Westminster police charged Jovan Lynn Martinez, 30, with second-degree burglary, criminal mischief, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of burglary tools, making a false report to authorities, identify theft, criminal possession of a financial transaction device and criminal possession of an identification document.

On Tuesday afternoon, police were dispatched to the 10300 block of Dover Street in response to a burglary in progress. When they arrived, police located a male and Martinez in a red car. Martinez ran from the vehicle and was taken into custody shortly afterward. The male left in the vehicle and officers followed him.

A motorcycle officer attempted to stop the suspect near 92nd Avenue and Harlan Street and when the vehicle intentionally swerved toward the officer, he drew his gun and fired a round at the car, hitting the suspect.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital and was in critical condition as of Wednesday at 4:45 p.m.

His identify has not been released.
