GREELEY, Colo. – It’s one of the busiest times of the year for the Weld Food Bank but it's short on much-needed food this season.

With the Thanksgiving holiday less than two weeks away, the food bank is trying to come up with thousands of turkeys.

Weston Edmunds, communications manager for Weld Food Bank, said the organization has so far received about 300 turkeys for holiday dinners, far short of its goal of more than 5,400 birds.

It’s not just turkeys, however. Edmunds said the food bank needs other items for holiday dinners as well – things like green beans, stuffing and cream of mushroom soup.

People interested in donating to the Weld Food Bank have several options. Donations can be made in person at the food bank’s warehouse at 1108 H Street in Greeley, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The food bank also has partnered with Wing Shack locations in Greeley, Garden City and Windsor, which are offering five free boneless chicken wings in exchange for a turkey donation. The restaurants also will donate $5 to the food bank for every donated turkey.

In addition, the food bank is holding its annual turkey drive on Saturday, Nov. 18 at various grocery stores in the Greeley area.

The food bank also welcomes financial donations any time of year.
