LOCHBUIE, Colo. — Two people are in custody after police said they stole a pick-up in Platteville and led police on a dramatic and dangerous chase.
The chase didn’t end until the joyride left a trail of property damage in its wake.
It ended on Shenandoah Way in Lochbuie early Monday morning, shortly after 3 a.m.
“It was pretty scary. Waking up we got a phone call from my mother-in-law and looking at our cameras we were shocked that there was a bunch of cops in front of our home and that we didn’t know what was going on,” said Lynette Hurtado, a Lochbuie resident.
Somehow Hurtado and her family didn't wake up to all of the commotion.
“We couldn’t believe that we slept through that,” Hurtado said.
Just a block down the road, police said the two suspects crashed into a neighbor’s home.
“We saw the scraped up streets, so we are driving around,” Hurtado said.
A second car was stolen before the suspects were finally cornered in front of the Hurtado's house and caught on their security camera.
The video shows police in their driveway with guns drawn as they try to convince the suspects to surrender. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt.
“Very fortunate. I’m very fortunate that we there was no gunshots and probably would walk up to that,” Hurtado said.
Because out in Lochbuie, it's not anything they ever expected to see or watch back on their cameras.
“Couldn’t believe it. It’s scary and it can happen again," Hurtado said. "Didn’t think it was gonna happen out here, but it can happen anywhere.”
The incident remains under investigation. Police have not identified the two people taken into custody.
