Where to celebrate St. Patrick's Day: Denver's top-rated Irish pubs

DENVER – Friday is Saint Patrick’s Day and for many people, that means celebrating with a pint of Guiness or some corned beef and cabbage.

Denver has no shortage of bars offering an authentic Irish pub experience and many of them will be holding Saint Patrick’s Day events and offering food and drink specials.

Here are some of the Mile High City’s most popular Irish pubs, according to restaurant review site Yelp:

1. Finley’s PubYelp rating: 4.5 stars
375 Pearl St.

Finley’s has the highest score of any of Denver’s Irish pubs on Yelp. Located at Pearl and Alameda, the bar bills itself as a neighborhood pub. Reviewers like the food and the craft beer selection.

2. Nallen’s Irish PubYelp rating: 4 stars
1429 Market St.

Nallen’s in Lower Downtown calls itself Denver’s oldest Irish Pub. The pub says it will have Irish dancers, bagpipers and corned beef sandwiches to celebrate the holiday. Reviewers like the service and the authentic Irish atmosphere.

3. Irish SnugYelp rating: 4 stars
1201 E. Colfax Ave.

The Irish Snug in Capitol Hill will also have live performances from dancers and bagpipers on St. Patrick’s Day. Reviewers say the pub has plenty of space and great food.

4. Dougherty’s Neighborhood PubYelp rating: 4 stars
5 E. Ellsworth Ave.

Dougherty’s says on its website that it has “Denver’s best Guinness” and authentic Irish food. Like some of the others, this pub will have dancers, bagpipes and other entertainment Friday night. Reviewers recommend the Guinness mac and cheese.

5. The Fainting Goat PubYelp rating: 4 stars
846 Broadway

The Fainting Goat calls itself “the Golden Triangle’s best spot to quench your thirst, grab a meal, or spend an afternoon enjoying the Denver sunshine on our rooftop patio.” Reviewers seem to agree, praising the food, prices and the patio.

6. The Abbey TavernYelp rating: 4 stars
5151 E. Colfax Ave.

The Abbey on Colfax is one of Denver’s newer Irish pubs, but it’s plenty popular. Reviewers love the fish and chips, the friendly service and the neighborhood pub ambiance.

7. Maggie Smith’s Irish PubYelp rating: 4 stars
6631 Peoria St., Centennial

Maggie Smith’s isn’t technically in Denver, but it’s one of the highest-rated Irish pubs in the area. The bar promises an “authentic Irish pub atmosphere” and great food. Maggie Smith’s will have dancers, bagpipers and more Friday night. Reviewers love the food and the atmosphere.
