For the past few days, there have been monkey and elephant sightings all over the Denver metro area.
Wooden cut outs of the animals were attached to street signs, posts and poles outside of schools and businesses in Denver and Aurora. They've been sparking lots speculation and silly wordplay like "What is all this monkey business?" and "Wooden you like to know about these elephants?"
Some of the cut outs were sprayed with the hashtag #TWYA.
A quick search of Twitter reveals the hashtag is often used to stand for "the way your are." But what does that have to do monkeys and elephants?
A Facebook group called "Wooden Monkey Elephants" is claiming to be responsible for the appearance of the animals but is being intentionally vague about their meaning.
"We're not just silly and cute. We have a serious and timely message for our community. Will you be one of the first to solve our riddle?" the group states.
On Wednesday, the group posted a status update saying students could win $1,000 for their school by decorating the wooden animals and posting photos to the Facebook page.
The authenticity of the contest has not been verified and the organizers have not said how or when the prize money would be awarded.
The group posted one woman's photo of a monkey with the caption: "Be kind to him. He brings a powerful message to Denver."
