BRIGHTON, Colo. – The man accused of fatally shooting a 13-year-old boy and injuring three others in a Westminster road rage incident earlier this year will get more time to enter a plea in the case, a judge ruled Tuesday.

At Tuesday’s hearing, 23-year-old Jeremy Webster’s attorneys said they needed more time to understand his mental health history, which prosecutors objected to but the judge in the case allowed. Webster is now scheduled to enter a plea at a hearing scheduled for Jan. 7.

A judge ruled in October that there was enough evidence to proceed with 11 counts against Webster, including first-degree murder, in the case.

Webster is accused of shooting 41-year-old Meghan Bigelow, her two sons and another man outside of a Westminster dentist’s office in June in an incident that started with road rage, police have said. One of the boys, 13-year-old Vaughn Bigelow, died as a result of the shooting.

Webster allegedly got angry that Bigelow had cut him off while trying to merge out of the way of an emergency vehicle and followed her and her sons to the office park where the shooting occurred.

He fled after the shooting and was captured near Castle Rock while on his way to Colorado Springs.

Webster faces one count of first-degree murder after deliberation; three counts of attempted first-degree murder after deliberation; two counts of attempted first-degree murder – extreme indifference; three counts of first-degree assault causing serious bodily injuries with a deadly weapon; one count of first-degree assault – extreme indifference; and attempted first-degree assault – extreme indifference.

He is being held without bond pending his next court hearing.
