WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Police in Westminster are investigating a homicide that began as a traffic stop early Thursday morning.

Around 2:00 a.m., a Westminster Police officer pulled over a suspected drunk driver and later determined the occupants of the car may have been involved in a shooting. It's not clear how many people were in the vehicle.

According to a statement from the Westminster Police Department, officers went to the Edgewood Apartments located at 6980 Stuart Street and discovered the body of a man inside one of the units.

Police have not released many details surrounding the case. They say detectives are still working to determine the events that led to the man’s homicide, which police believe occurred just shortly before the traffic stop.

A press release from the Westminster Police Department fails to mention if any arrests were made.

The identity of the deceased victim will be released by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.
