VAIL, Colo. – Westbound Interstate 70 was shut down near Vail Pass on Saturday after a multi-vehicle wreck sent five people to hospitals, officials said. The highway re-opened about 2 p.m. but delays remained in the area.

Three children were among the victims taken to the hospital, and one child was flown to Denver in critical condition, according to the Colorado State Patrol. Another person was in critical condition, but their age was unknown. The wreck happened at mile marker 182 and involved a camper, a Jeep, a Ford Explorer and a semi-truck. One of the vehicles was pulling the camper when the crash happened, officials said.

Saturday's crash was the second major backup along I-70 in the mountains this weekend. The highway was shut down in both directions Friday evening after a mudslide near Glenwood Springs.
