A Weld County sheriff's deputy involved in a fatal crash while on duty has been cited for careless driving causing death.
The Greeley Tribune reports (http://goo.gl/jzSpT0 ) 46-year-old Tim Boxley was en route to a call Nov. 17 when he crashed into a car driven by 74-year-old Jose Mercado-Nova, of Gill. The Colorado State Patrol says Mercado-Nova was at a stop sign and entered an intersection, failing to yield to Boxley, who had the right of way. Investigators say Boxley was driving 101 mph in a 65 mph zone and had not activated his lights and siren.
Sheriff's spokesman Matt Turner says Boxley was placed on desk duty, and not paid administrative leave, because he "wouldn't be doing us any good if he was sitting at home collecting a check."
