Watch live: Colorado's first bald eagle egg of the season in Platteville nest

Posted

DENVER – It’s nesting time for Colorado’s bald eagle population, and you can watch along as the first egg of the year incubates and hatches!

Xcel Energy has two “Eagle Cams” trained on the nest, which sits at the company’s Fort St. Vrain Station in Platteville. Xcel says it first spotted the egg Monday night shortly after 10 p.m.

The pair of soon-to-be parents has a 6x5 foot nest that sits in a cottonwood tree close to the Xcel plant.

They typically return to their nests in the fall and raise eggs from February to June. The eagles have used the nest for years, and the Colorado Division of Wildlife bands the offspring.
