DENVER -- With his contract expired, Walt Weiss has stepped down as the manager of the Colorado Rockies.

The manager, who had played for the Rockies from 1994 through 1997, replaced Jim Tracy as the team's manager in November of 2012. He also had served as special assistant to the general manager from 2002 through 2008.

Weiss' future with the Rockies was up in the air as he hadn't yet accomplished a winning season with his 3-year contract expiring. It appeared to be an amicable departure.

"Thank you, Walt, for your years of hard work, sacrifice and strong leadership as Rockies manager," The Rockies organization said on Monday. "We wish you all the best in the future."

Weiss' final record with the Rockies will be 283 wins and 365 losses.
