WELD COUNTY, Colo. -- Someone told a high school senior to kill herself after photos of a piñata with President Donald Trump's face on it went viral.

The student's mother, Lesley Hollywood, posted the photo on Facebook after her daughter brought it to her attention. She wrote on Facebook that even thought she didn't vote for Trump she would be taking the issue up with the school.

"I don’t take issue with the teacher himself I take issue with this activity and that’s really all I did was take issue with it and question it on my own personal Facebook page," said Hollywood.

A Weld County Spanish teacher was placed on leave after the photos surfaced showing students hitting the piñata. The Facebook post soon went viral and threats started pouring in.

One message to Hollywood reads, "Let's just hope someone puts a bullet in your brain you attention seeking b---- thanks for ruining an innocent man's life."

Roosevelt High School canceled classes on Monday in response to threats made on social media. School officials also called off a public meeting on Tuesday night. The superintendent released the following statement, the full letter is available online.

Right now, we are dedicating all of our time and resources to ensuring the safety of our high school students. While the threat made against RHS, that caused the school to be closed yesterday, has not been deemed credible, there is still an active investigation underway by the Johnstown Police Department. This is in addition to the district’s internal investigation of the Cinco de Mayo event last Friday.

The principal also met with students Tuesday. The teacher remains suspended without pay.
