WINDSOR, Colo. – There will be a prayer vigil Wednesday night in Windsor to remember Brycen Zerby, the 8-year-old boy who was tragically killed in an accident at the Windsor Harvest Festival Parade Monday, ahead of memorial services set for Friday.
Zerby died Monday after he tripped while walking in the parade and was run over by a float for the church he and his family attend, Generations Church, police and the church said.
“We are deeply saddened in our loss and sincerely grateful for your prayers, support, communication and interest, most importantly for the Zerby family, but also for our church and for those affected in the local communities we live in and enjoy. We love you and we need you,” the church said in a news release sent out Tuesday.
A GoFundMe page set up by Clear Water Products, where Brycen’s father Jimmy works, had already brought in more than $58,000 as of Tuesday afternoon—more than double the $25,000 goal. The church is asking anyone who wishes to support the family to donate to the fundraiser.
Generations Church said it will be sending a pastor to a vigil scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Eastman Park in Windsor to remember Zerby.
The church also said that the boy’s memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday at Generations Church, located at 3600 W. 22nd St. in Greeley, with a brief reception to follow. A brief graveside service will be held the next day in Cañon City.
The church says there is a “crisis response event” planned for Tuesday for anyone involved in Monday’s incident, and asked anyone else who needs support to contact North Range Behavioral Health at 970-347-2120. It additionally said that the church and Frontier Elementary in Greeley, where Zerby attended school, would have crisis teams in place this week.
“The Zerby family and Generations Church are grateful for all efforts towards support, love and unity within our communities. … Our sincere thanks for your prayers and support to the family,” the church said in a statement.
