DENVER – A vigil was held Monday evening at Commons Park in Denver for several of the victims of a Sunday morning crash that killed five people.
The rollover crash happened near the border of Elbert and Arapahoe counties. Colorado State Patrol said the small sedan all five were in at the time was traveling at a high rate of speed when it rolled and caught fire.
Manuella Castaneda organized Monday’s vigil, saying she grew up with two of the victims: brother Levi and Angelo Andazola.
“They were always happy,” Castaneda said. “All the siblings got along. They called each other best friends.”
She said all five were on their way to a haunted area known as Third Bridge when the crash happened southeast of Aurora. Colorado State Patrol said the car was speeding before the crash.
Castaneda’s mother said it hit too close to home for her.
“They need to understand that there’s parents at home that worry about their kids. And look what happened: just for one little mistake, five lives are gone,” Christina Castaneda said.
Among the other victims were Guadalupe Macias, 15, a girl named Jenny, and Omar Medina Aniceto.
GoFundMe pages have been created for the Andazola brothers, Macias and Aniceto.
The coroner has not yet been able to identify the victims because the damage from the crash was so severe.
