WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. -- Vandals have desecrated the Coors family gravesite at Crown Hill Cemetery.
After learning that Bill Coors passed away, Ryan Powers contacted Denver7 and said he and his girlfriend, who are both into Colorado history, were walking through the cemetery Saturday morning when they noticed something bright red and yellow on one of the slab grave markers northeast of the tower.
"It ended up being a bunch of paint and some really bizarre stuff," he said.
Powers added that as they got closer, they noticed that the gravesite belonged to Adolph Coors.
"We saw a bunch of ladybug thumbtacks (stuck in the yellow paint,)" he said, "and a lot of scratches."
He added that when they walked around the obelisk, they saw some kind of symbol spray-painted in back.
"I would never want that to happen to my family," he said, "It's disrespectful. I thought giving a call to you guys would be a good idea and maybe get the word out to discourage others from doing something like that."
Powers said he contacted staff at the cemetery office and was told they would investigate and notify the family.
Adolph Coors was born in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany in February of 1847.
He co-founded the brewery that bears his name in 1873.
