VAIL, Colo. — Police in Vail said they are searching for a suspect accused of hitting an unmasked person after an argument about masks.

On Dec. 23 around 11:30 a.m., the Vail Police Department learned that a physical altercation had occurred near the intersection of Bridge Street and Gore Creek Drive. Officers who were nearby investigated and learned that a physical fight had sparked due to a person not wearing a face covering at Vail Village.

The male suspect allegedly struck the person who wasn't wearing a mask in the face before fleeing, police said.

The suspect has not yet been identified and Vail police are requesting assistance identifying the person. They have footage from the town's surveillance cameras of the man.

Anyone with information that could help in identifying the suspect is asked to contact Officer John Coates at 970-479-2200 or email jcoates@vailgov.com.

Vail police said facial coverings are required in Vail Village and Lionshead, and inside parking structures.
