DENVER – U.S News & World Report, known for its rankings of everything from colleges and universities to cars and careers, says Colorado is among the top 10 states in the country.
The site’s ‘Best States’ list, released Tuesday, puts Colorado in ninth place overall.
Tiny Massachusetts takes the top spot on the list.
Here are U.S. News & World Report’s top 10 states:
1. Massachusetts
2. New Hampshire
3. Minnesota
4. North Dakota
5. Washington
6. Iowa
7. Utah
8. Maryland
9. Colorado
10. Vermont
The site’s analysts looked at dozens of factors and lumped them into seven categories: Healthcare, education, crime and corrections, infrastructure, opportunity, economy and government.
U.S. News & World Report also ranked the states on each of those factors and Colorado came out on top in the economic category. The Centennial State might not have the biggest economy in terms of GDP, but it’s showing strong growth, both in the GDP and in the job market, the report found.
Colorado also ranked first in the country for its low obesity rate.
Where did Colorado fall short? We ranked lowly in the “opportunity” category, with especially low scores for things like equality and affordability. No surprise there; Colorado has become an increasingly expensive place to live in recent years.
