Ursa Resources backs off plan to drill near school

Posted

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) — Ursa Resources has tabled plans to pursue natural gas drilling near a Garfield County school.

The Daily Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/2dy1Sgz ) that the company told Garfield School District 16 and Garfield County officials in a letter Wednesday that it doesn't intend to immediately pursue permits near Grand Valley High School in Parachute at this time.

The company says it will pursue permits at the location in the future.

Ursa has been embattled over proposed drilling with neighboring residents of Battlement Mesa. Many neighbors had criticized the company's desire to drill so close to a school.
