Unicyclist finishes 500-mile Colorado Trail

A 36-year-old Boulder man who rode his mountain unicycle along the 500-mile Colorado Trail says he decided partway through to dedicate the trip to raising money for ALS research.

The Durango Herald reports Jamey Mossengren left Denver for Durango on Aug. 25 for a trek on one wheel that started out as a personal journey and turned into a $2-per-mile fundraiser.

He says his grandfather and uncle both died of Lou Gehrig's disease, also known as ALS.

Mossengren said his grandmother taught him to ride a unicycle when he was 10 years old, and that he's won several competitive titles since.

The 20-day journey ended Monday night, and Mossengren said he's heading back to Denver where he's a professional street performer.
