THORNTON, Colo. — Two people were injured in a crash after a driver refused to stop for police in Thornton early Tuesday morning.

Sgt. Ernie Lucero with the Thornton Police Department said officers tried to stop a vehicle at 3:37 a.m. just south of the E. 104th Avenue and Riverdale Road intersection for a minor traffic offense.

The driver did not stop and crashed into a traffic pole before officers could start a pursuit.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle were taken to a hospital with injuries.

Lucero said one of the police vehicles involved may have been damaged in the crash.

Riverdale Road remained closed between 100th Avenue and 104th Avenue until 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
