JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. -- Crews shut down part of Highway 285 on Tuesday afternoon just ahead of rush hour due to a pair of grass fires. The road was reopened about two hours later.
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Officials confirmed crews responded to two separate grass fires burning just off of the highway at Hampden Avenue at Kipling Street.
Although no structures were threatened, a nearby golf course had to be evacuated for safety. It took crews less than an hour to get the fires under control.
Video captured by Belinda Litchko shows crews in the early stages of responding to the fires, with traffic rushing by.
Just before 3 p.m., crews began reopening the highway. It's still expected that the backups will last into rush hour.
