LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Two people have been arrested and are accused of shooting and killing a dog along a street in Lakewood on Aug. 1.

On Thursday just before 7 p.m., detectives and the Lakewood Police Department's Special Enforcement Team arrested Sean Andrews, 42, and Desiree Andrews, 40, both of Arvada. Both were found at a residence along the 2800 block of S. Ivan Way in Denver, police said.

The pair is accused of killing the dog on Aug. 1. That day, around 7 a.m., Lakewood police responded to a call of shots fired near the intersection of W. 12th Avenue and Teller Street. When they arrived, they found an adult pit bull mix who had died of apparent gunshot wounds, police said.

Witnesses at the scene said they saw a man and woman pull up and park at the intersection in a Chrysler 300. They told police the woman shot the dog while the man struggled to hold it still. After the shooting, both returned to the car and fled, leaving the dog in the street, police said.

The dog was not microchipped and did not have tags.

Sean Andrews was jailed at the Jefferson County Jail on charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

Desiree Andrews was jailed in the same location on charges of aggravated cruelty to animals, possession of a weapon by a previous offender and violation of bond conditions.

Lakewood police said these arrests are a direct result of tips from the community.

The motive for the killing remains unknown. The suspect's vehicle — a silver Chrysler 300 with an expired Colorado temporary tag 1681668 — has not been located. If you see it, call police at 303-980-7300.
