DURANGO, Colo. – Calling all history buffs: The Travel Channel is filming a historical reenactment in Colorado and they need a few extras.
The Durango Herald reports the cable channel is filming at several locations in southwestern Colorado this week for its series ‘Expedition Unknown.’
In particular, the network crew is looking for extras for a reenactment of the 1899 Wilcox train robbery on Sunday.
According to the Wyoming State Historical Society, Butch Cassidy’s gang of bandits flagged down a train near Wilcox on June 2, 1899, blew up the baggage car with dynamite and made off with more than $50,000 in gold, cash and jewelry.
The reenactment will be filmed at the Durango Train Depot, among other nearby locations, the Herald reports.
Producers are looking for several particular types of people for the reenactment. They are:
- A “tough but gentlemanly” outlaw type in his 20s to mid-30s with dark complexion. Experience with guns, horses and historical reenactments a plus.
- Five men who fit the cowboy, sheriff and train conductor types.
- Two to four women.
Producers would prefer to find actors who have their own period-appropriate costumes, but it’s not a requirement. The rate of pay has yet to be determined.
