A service dog being trained to help a soldier with post-traumatic stress disorder has been found safe after he disappeared from a backyard in Colorado Springs.

Trainer Anthony Archer - who is also a veteran - reported "Hero" missing on Tuesday. Archer said he thought the dog had been stolen.

Hero is a 2-year-old German Shepherd-husky mix and is part of Mountain High Service Dogs.

Beverly Couzens Archer shared photos of Hero on Facebook.

"Someone took Hero, the service dog we were fostering from our back yard," she wrote.

Anthony Archer told KRDO that Hero is not known to run away and there were no signs of escape. He believes Hero was taken between 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., when their house on Murdoch Drive was empty.

Hero was spotted that same afternoon by an ENT Federal Credit Union worker, KRDO reported. She took the dog to a vet clinic and then saw the story about the missing dog on the news.

Hero is being reunited with the Archers.
